Vacant Lots can provide a solution (Bronzeville) - AP
For my class, the Art of Rhetoric, we had the opportunity to show our understanding of rhetorical devices and appeals by creating a flyer based on a housing issue in our community. This flyer has the purpose of bringing awareness to the large number of vacant lots in the neighborhood of Bronzeville. I used rhetorical appeals - Pathos, Logos, and Ethos - to make the text more persuasive and engaging. The use of Pathos is seen in the picture found on the right side of the flyer, which appeals to the emotions of the audience with pictures that invoke sorrow and sympathy towards those dealing with homelessness. I appealed to Logos by using many statistics and facts about this problem. Another example of an appeal in this flyer is the use of Ethos, which was used to establish credibility. I have credibility in this sense because the problem with the lack of housing is affecting my neighborhood.
